Abstract

In current study, particle number (PN), CO, HC and NOx in both main and side stream smoke were measured, the pyrolysis of tobacco leaf was measured by differential scanning calorimeter and the morphology of leaf was observed by laser scanning confocal microscope. Main findings are: the diameter of the particulate matter was changed between 10 nm to 80 nm; pollutants in main stream smoke decrease with interval time; PN and HC in side stream smoke increase with interval time. But for CO and NOx exposure in side stream smoke, the highest amount appeared at interval 3 s followed by 4 s and then 9 s. So, the common smoking habits did not achieve the best trade-off between inhaled and exposure amount. The test uncertainty was analyzed in detail. So the present study is to provide a good demonstration for smoking research and implications for improvement of smoking habit.
