Abstract

The buckling behaviour in axial compression of infinitely-long shallow cylindrical panels with simplysupported edges is analysed, taking shear deformability into account, and the slope of the load-(end strain) curve at the instant of buckling is evaluated; both orthotropic and isotropic materials are considered. The analytical results are of particular relevance to the overall buckling behaviour of panels made from sandwich and other composite materials.
