Abstract
It is explicitly shown that the phase probability distribution of an initially coherent field state is broadened due to strong linear amplification by a factor √2 if the initial photon number is not to small. Generally, the broadening of the phase distribution by a high-gain and minimum-noise amplifier is mediated by certain coefficients which where derived in an earlier paper and are here invetigated in more detail. In addition we derive these coefficients by a new approach exactly and show their importance for the inevitable noise of the amplification process.
