Abstract

The completion of the British Library Centre for Conservation (BLCC) is a milestone in the history of conservation at the Library. It not only means that all the Conservation staff working at the BL will be on the one site for the first time, it also takes Conservation, Collection Care and the Sound Archive Technical Section out of the backroom and into the public eye and provides a focal point for the key strategic messages about the Library's stewardship of the collections and for care of collections generally. The article describes how this is both a great opportunity and a significant challenge, and how the process of getting to the point of having a new building with a range of new programmes on offer has been an impressive example of team work.
