Abstract

ABSTRACT The extinct bristletail genus Dasyleptus is a typical late Palaeozoic insect group that widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere. Here we describe the first fossil record of Dasyleptus from the Upper Permian-Lower Triassic transitional strata (the Kayitou Formation) in the Yinchanggou Coalmine, Fuyuan County, eastern Yunnan Province, China. A new species, Dasyleptus sinensis sp. nov., is established. Our find of Dasyleptus fossils suggests a probable latest Permian age for the fossiliferous strata, before the terrestrial extinction at the Permian–Triassic boundary.
