Abstract

Abstract The paper presents the data of investigations on the breeding period of southern subspecies of the Golden Plover (Pluvialis a. apricaria). The investigations were mostly carried out in the Kamanos Strict Nature Reserve upland moor (north Lithuania. 2244 ha area). Some data are obtained from other upland moors: Reiskiq tyras (875 ha), Aukstasis tyras (540 ha), Mūsos tyras (1500 ha). We were interested in the arrival dates of the birds to their breeding grounds, pair formation, occupation of breeding territories, behaviour. We also investigated the process of egg- laying, and phytocenoses preferred by Golden Plovers. Golden Plovers on the nest were observed for several days in turn. The works of that kind have not as yet been performed in Lithuania, nor were published data in press.
