Abstract

The present study proposes an analysis of the Mangueira plot samba in the year 2020, using as a theoretical basis the principles of Jungian psychology. Specifically, the goal is to explore the concept of the self and Christ, as described in Carl Gustav Jung's Aion. The research seeks to understand the symbolism of the "Brazilian Christ" represented in the Carnival parade, in contrast to its representation in traditional religious contexts, and investigate how these symbols manifest themselves and express themselves through the art of samba. By analyzing the 2020 Mangueira storyline samba in the light of these concepts, one seeks to understand how the symbolism of the "Brazilian Christ" relates to the artistic expression of Carnival, a pagan festival that contrasts with traditional religious rituals. Through this analysis, it is hoped to shed light on the ways in which the art of samba can function as a deep symbolic expression of the Brazilian collective psyche, offering insights into the intersection between religion, culture and psychology in contemporary society.
