Abstract
Unless one is specifically interested in historical aspects of eye movement research in Russia, this text may be omitted from their reading list. The book is a revision of a 1974 Russian work detailing author's own investigations, with unifying theme that ocular motor behavior is an example of goal-directed behavior. As Lorrin Riggs indicates in this text's forward, the reader should not make mistake of viewing this monography as a guide to present state of knowledge on control of eye movements. Compared with impact of A. L. Yarbus's 1967 Eye Movements and Vision by same publisher, this text is a disappointment. The first chapter is an outdated cursory review of research in other countries; better information is presented in a number of contemporary eye movement monographs.
