Abstract
A Bragg-Williams theory of a single monolayer interface is re-examined. The contribution to the free energy and surface tension due to the asymmetry between the liquid and the solid phase on either side of the interface is identified. Adsorption effects leading to formation of an ordered solid phase are included and are in agreement with the thermodynamic behaviour.
