Abstract

The treatment of patients with superficial spreading sarcomas can be challenging. Determining margin status, delivery of radiation therapy as needed, and soft tissue reconstruction can all be difficult. Specifically, delivering radiation to the appropriate region can be inexact, and it often compromises the soft tissue reconstruction. We have developed a novel technique that allows us to offer complete treatment (surgical excision, radiation, and reconstruction) in a manner that minimizes both time and soft tissue complications. This method, called BrachyVAC therapy, allows total treatment to be completed within approximately two weeks, and delivers no radiation to the reconstructed tissues.
