Abstract

As a first step in the understanding of boundary control for the general nonlinear Navier-Stokes flow, the authors use the boundary element method to compute the solutions of a linear-quadratic optimal control problem governed by the linear Stokes flow on a bounded three-dimensional domain. The domain is chosen as a unit sphere and the boundary control is the viscous stress on the boundary. Numerical solutions are illustrated by computer graphics. >
