Abstract

This chapter presents Islamic teachings about the Book. God's Word, as manifested in all the diversity of creation, was reassembled in the innermost depths of the human self. Undifferentiated, the Word contains all the knowledge of the Self; but differentiated, it comprises all the signs revealed in the outer and the inner worlds. These separate signs form the book of Divine knowledge, which is Complete. We may recognize the invitation it contains or may deny it, as God's question in the Recitation indicates: “Didst thou not know that God knows all that is in heaven and earth? Surely that is in a Book.” The fact that everything that exists is contained in this Book means that the whole of creation is nothing other than God's speech about Himself.
