Abstract

The article discusses scientists' efforts to explain the abundance of plant and animal life in the Amazon rain forest. The lush vegetation of the Amazon is attributed to the Amazon River, which seasonally floods vast swaths of forest during the rainy seasons, producing ideal conditions to nurture plant and animal life.
