Abstract

Abstract Why is it that virtually all histories of photography to date have been national histories? In English, for example, there now exist a substantial number of major references concerning photography's development, but not one is truly comprehensive and international. Instead; researchers must form their own syntheses from separate books on photography in Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Japan, Scotland, and the United States—among others.
