Abstract
The television transmitter at Holme Moss is connected to Birmingham by a two-way transmission system on standard 3/8-in diameter coaxial cable and thence to London via the earlier system on 1-in coaxial cable. The new link is the first to be based on the recommendations of the C.C.I.F. for the transmission of television signals within the frequency band 60–4000 kc/s approximately as an alternative to 960 telephone channels.The system has been planned with the object of meeting a tentative specification, agreed between the B.B.C. and the Post Office, for four-link connection 500 miles in length, and a high standard of transmission has been obtained. A new type of waveform corrector has been fitted experimentally at Holme Moss and some preliminary test results are given.
