Abstract

A stratigraphic range chart of Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian to Maastrichtian) Ostracoda from North Africa is presented. A second chart compares the stratigraphic and geographic distribution of ostracods in North Africa, West Africa and Congo. Comparisons of Upper Cretaceous-basal Tertiary ostracods faunas in North Africa, Mali and Congo demonstrate connections between those regions providing a supporting argument for the existence of a trans-Saharan sea during the latest Cretaceous and early Tertiary.
