Abstract

Summary Plasma concentrations of ivermectin are reported in pregnant mares following their treatment with ivermectin either orally as a paste or in liquid formulation administered by nasogastric intubation. Mares given the liquid formulation had a faster time-to-peak, a higher peak plasma concentration, and more absorbed drug than mares given the oral paste formulation. There were no other observed alterations in the clinically normal condition of the animals after treatment. Based on these findings, one can conclude that the liquid formulation should be at least efficacious as the oral paste formulation.
