Abstract
Constituents of the haemolymph of the milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus, bind exogenously applied juvenile hormone. Data from Sephadex gel filtration, preparative isoelectric focusing and charcoal assay suggest that juvenile hormone is bound to at least two large molecular weight lipoproteins. In vitro and in vivo studies confirm the binding of the labeled hormone to these proteins. Developmental studies indicate that similar proteins are present in the fourth and fifth instars. It is demonstrated that binding artifacts may be generated when gel filtration is used as the only means of analysis.
