First, the cardboard box becomes a car she drives through the neighborhood, then a ship to sail the sea, then a hot air balloon, and finally a rocketship, where she hits space and can no longer hear the incessant "wah wah wah." Cassie realizes she misses her sibling, though, so she comes back to Earth, [End Page 30] knowing she can return to her box when she needs to and even inviting the baby to join her. Leer's playful art emulates watercolor in its shading; Cassie's cardboard box is integrated with the vehicles it transforms into as a reminder that reality is not so far away. This quick tale in soothing cool colors and pastel pinks is ideal for calming down any big sibling who understands Cassie's dilemma, and it's a simple take on the necessity of carving out some alone time from family when kids are overwhelmed.
