Abstract

This chapter discusses the Bible, which is absolutely central for Southern Baptists. It is held in the highest regard as the authority in matters of faith and practice. The Bible also provides the meta-narrative by which Southern Baptists shape their identities as Christians, and it is at the center of preaching, teaching, missions, and music. This discussion looks at the relationship of Southern Baptist women to the Bible, which leads to a better understanding of the gendered identities of these women.
