Abstract

Children's librarians can play an important role in combating cultural isolationism through the selection and promotion of translated children's books from other languages into English. Translations can serve as an important medium for sharing the similarities and differences between various cultures. Although translated books have often been accused of "not traveling well," the number of translations available todav are such that we have an increasing opportunity to include quality translated literature in our collections. Suggestions for promoting translations are given. Also, an annotated bibliography of picture-books from a vaiiety of languages and a list of useful bibliographies are provided.
