The Benefits Of Mooring Load Monitoring At Single Point Moorings

Abstract

This paper discusses the use of mooring load monitoring systems at offshore or deep-water production, import and export terminals. Terminals with single point moorings are emphasized. The operational experience with existing systems, the features of existing and possible systems and the benefits obtained with the use of such systems are discussed. Mooring load prediction systems, for predicting mooring loads at some future time, are also discussed. It is concluded that mooring load monitoring systems, which provide increased port safety and utilization, should be used at all deepwater ports and single point moorings.
