Abstract

This paper describes the prestressing of the Oldbury No. 1 reactor pressure vessel, the checks on tendon anchorage loads and the readings taken from the strain gauges within the concrete. The readings are compared with theoretically predicted results based on computer analysis in combination with the measured tendon anchorage loads and assumed values for Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and specific creep time functions. From this comparison reasonable values are obtained for instantaneous E values and specific creep time functions appertaining to the Oldbury vessels at ambient temperature. The proof pressure test is described and the various readings obtained are compared with anticipated values.
