Abstract

The larvae of Cotinis nitida Burmeister, the green June beetle or fig-eater, is easily distinguished from other grubs by its peculiar habit of creeping upon its dorsal surface. It makes burrows which often open to the surface. Davis[*][1], working in Illinois, found that grubs of this species came to the entrances of their burrows or even crawled upon the surface of ground when the soil was covered with water. [1]: #fn-1
