Abstract

AbstractResearch is more appreciated and impactful when the right research data is used to validate research findings. In an information-driven world like ours, there is a fast-growing amount of data all around us; hence, the dire need for researchers to be well informed on the techniques, strategies, and approaches needed to generate data. This chapter projects the beauty of research data in scientific research; it directs the reader on how to get the best from research data. The reader is exposed to the different forms of data available for collection, and several collection techniques have been discussed. The sources for research data collection were also discussed to include their merits and drawbacks. Research data categories were examined extensively to guide the reader in making wise decisions. Researchers will further benefit from the suggested guidelines for generating research data. Emphasis was placed on the life cycle of research data and the importance and need to manage research data.KeywordsResearch dataCollection techniqueData sourcingLife cycleData managementKnowledge economyQuestionnaireScienceInformation and communication technologiesOwnership of dataData trade-offsIdentifiers to datasetsResearch policyInformation-driven worldFemale researchersResearch enterprise
