Abstract
Cheap microcomputers are no longer for home and personal use only. Laboratories and schools constitute a growing share of the market. The BBC model B microcomputer is one of the devices whose increased popularity has led to a greater range of peripheral units being supplied for more varied applications. In data acquisition systems the interface between the microcomputer and the experimental apparatus is of vital importance. Handling of analogue data, parallel digital data and serial digital data as input to the BBC micro is reviewed. The 1 MHz expansion bus and various extra cards are also considered.
