Abstract
The author reflects on pushback against LGBT rights in the United States, including religious freedom laws and laws regulating which bathrooms transgendered people can use. She comments on how religious freedom laws allow business owners and public officials to refuse service to individuals who, according to the official or business owner, violates their religious beliefs. She talks about the over-representation of transgender people in jails and the failings of the criminal justice system.
