Abstract
The river Camel in north Cornwall has interested Arthurian scholars thanks to its supposed links with Arthur's last battle of Camlan. On this a study of comment from the sixteenth century onwards reveals growing skepticism; many now conclude that, even if a battle was fought at Camlan in 537, gaining a permanent place in Welsh tradition, there are no historical grounds to associate it with Arthur.
