Abstract

During the past year a bathymetric study has been made of that part of the Pacific Ocean off the Coast of Mexico and Central America in conjunction with the revision of charts of the Hydrographic Office of that area. This section of the Pacific Ocean on which nothing has been published is a necessary part of any study of the Western Caribbean Area. The bathymetric charts of the Pacific Coast of Central America and Mexico published prior to 1912 depict an indefinite, steep foreshore delineated by very few soundings. The chart of the Pacific Ocean by Dr. M. GROLL of the University of Berlin (1912) gives more detail, the first to show two narrow trenches along the west coast of Mexico opposite the town of Acapulco, with a depth of 5,341 meters and 5,120 meters.
