Abstract

Using measurements of the magnetisation of powdered YBaCuO combined with transmission electron microscopy, we find that it is the twin microstructure which intrinsically divides the material into weakly linked superconducting units. The temperature dependence of the magnetisation is in excellent agreement with the BSC theory in the dirty limit. Our results explain the partial Meissner effect in YBaCuO.
