Abstract
'In 2008, western nation states stepped in to prevent the collapse of the global financial system. Yet despite their averting economic catastrophe, we are witnessing a dramatic rise in intense beginning in the US with the Tea Party movement and now spreading to the UK and Europe. Patrick Dunleavy investigates the phenomenon of pallingenetic anti-statism, an aversive reaction to the forced recognition of capitalism's dependency on the state, a movement that seeks to turn the clock back to pre-modern conditions.
