Abstract

Background: Ongoing debate in the literature and new clinical data presented at the conference in St. Gallen bring a new insight into the role of axillary clearance in patient with positive sentinel lymph node in the course of invasive breast cancer. Data pointing to no difference in disease-free survival and overall survival of patient undergoing axillary lymphadenectomy and without axillary clearance undergoing other oncologic treatment inspired us to analyze the patient data from our Breast Surgery Department where we operate about 850 breast cancer patients annually.
