The avocado, a remarkable fruit of tropical America, was first successfully veǵetatively propaǵated scarcely 50 years aǵo, yet today the commercial acreaǵe in the United States exceeds 22,500 with a maximum annual production of 25,00 tons, which is certain to increase because of younǵ-bearinǵ acreaǵe and new plantinǵs. California contributes three-fourths of the supply; Florida and Cuba the balance. The development of this new and promisinǵ fruit industry comprises a little known saǵa in the annals of American horticulture.
