Abstract

A description of all Palaeozoic lithostratigraphic units depicted in the Austrian Stratigraphic Chart 2004 (sedimentary successions) is presented in a consistent manner. These include 191 units that belong to several major tectonic units scattered irregularly over Austria and covering less than 10 % of the country’s surface area. The tectonic units are: Greywacke Zone, Gurktal Nappe System, the Graz Palaeozoic, Carnic Alps, and Karavanke Mountains.
