Abstract

The article examines the views of conservative and liberal publicists on the policy of Austria-Hungary in the territories inhabited by Poles and Ukrainians (Ruthenians). These territories went to Austria after the first partition of the Commonwealth. Public debate on this issue was one of the subjects of the so-called Polish question. The term «Polish question» in the literature is understood as a complex of problems of the existence of Poland and Poles within the Russian Empire. Newspaper and magazine articles in Russian publications are used in the current article as sources. It determines the number of publicists actively addressing this issue. The subjects that served as a place of coincidence and divergence of publicists’ points of view are revealed. Arguments and evaluative judgments of publicists in the field of interethnic and interreligious relations in the Austro-Hungarian Empire are studied.
