Abstract

In order to determine the magnetic moment of each constituent atom in bcc ternary iron alloys Fe(CoMn) and Fe(CoCr), measurements of the bulk magnetization, Mossbauer spectra of 57 Fe nuclei and NMR spin echo spectra of 59 Co nuclei have been made for each sample in entire bcc concentration ranges. It is concluded that the Co moment in both alloy systems remains nearly constant being 1.8 µ B and that Fe moment in Fe(CoMn) alloys is determined uniquely as a function of the number of 3 d -electrons, while Fe moment in Fe(CoCr) alloys is not. It is inferred that Mn atom in Fe(CoMn) alloys has parallel magnetic moment to the bulk magnetization and Cr atom in Fe(CoCr) antiparallel magnetic moment.
