Abstract

The production and commercialisation of Genetically Modified Foods (GMF) is considered to be highly controversial. On the one hand, food biotechnology promises better quality products and a cleaner environment but, on the other hand, the development of genetically modified organisms is questionable from an ethical and safety point of view. The paper attempts to identify and analyse the main differences between the US and the UK food biotechnology industry and market. A comparative customer survey is also presented, highlighting the different customer perceptions in the two countries.
