Abstract

Recent investigations by several authors (~) have shown that there exists a certain class of field theories free of the known (( zero charge ~ difficulty (2). The gauge YangMills fields which play an important role in the unified theory of weak and electromagnetic interactions belong to this class of thcories. The latter remarkable fact was established by GROSS and WILCZEK, and also by POLITZER (see (1)), by summing the perturbat ion series on the basis of the renormalization group method. The fundamental nature of the result makes it desirable to study the problem by a different nonperturbative method. We shall begin with the exact set of equations for the Green's functions and obtain its asymptotic solution in the region of large values of the momenta. The absence of the (~ zero charge ~) difficulty follows from the explicit form of the solution thus obtained. The expression for the generating functional of thc Yang-Mills field theory is well known :
