Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the associativity problem for monoids and the word problem for semigroups and groups. The chapter also discusses the nonvalidity of the one-mountain theorem for general chains, associativity chains, homomorphic images, reduction of the word problem of semigroups to the associativity problem for monoids, the converse reduction, unsolvability degrees, and open questions. The chapter also discusses symmetrical monoids and groups.
