Abstract

Background: Non-motor symptoms(NMS) are a prominent feature in Parkinson's Disease(PD), often manifesting prior to motor symptoms. Studies have indicated the diversity of NMS and its adverse effect on Quality of Life(QoL). Stress is when strain is placed on a system, and most people will experience it in their lifetime as acute stress, however it may develop into chronic stress. Stress triggers a cascade of neurochemical and hormonal responses influenced by the hypothalamo-pituitary axis which are also associated with NMS such as anxiety and depression, features known to adversely affect QoL in PD.
