Abstract

Alterations in thyroid hormone levels and presence of antithyroid antibodies were implicated in the etiology of infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss. High concentration of homocysteine that occurs in folic acid and vitamin B12 deficiencies may cause cytotoxicity and oxidative stress, and may lead to impaired oocyte maturation and embryo development. Zinc, vitamin D and iron deficiencies were also demonstrated to hamper oocyte quality. The aim of the present study was to assess the association between serum thyroid hormone, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, ferritin and zinc levels and female infertility.
