Abstract

The research reported in this article examined the relationship between community college faculty members' departmental affiliation and their curricular choices. Data were collected from a random sample ( n =1,000) of community college instructors teaching at Washington State community and technical colleges during the 1999-2000 academic year. Faculty members' departmental affiliations served as the independent variable. The three dependent variables, which measured curricular choices, stemmed from the Conceptual Filters Model (Stark, Lowther, Sossen, & Shaw, 1991). The findings indicated that faculty members teaching in different departments emphasize different types of learning experiences for their students.
