Abstract

Background: Physical activity modification, paired with progressive exercise, is part of recommended care for Achilles tendinopathy. Pain during activities that load the tendon such as walking or calf raises are commonly used as a guide to progress exercises and physical activities. However, pain in tendinopathy is complex and is influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors, which may lead to different coping strategies in response to pain, load mismanagement, and poor treatment outcomes.
