Abstract

Purpose: Hip osteoarthritis (HOA) is a disease with increasing prevalence, but its aetiology is still not fully understood. Hip morphology has been recognised as an important risk factor. Over the last 15 years it has even been theorised that the majority of HOA cases are secondary to some sort of morphological abnormality. Morphological variants such as acetabular dysplasia and cam morphology are already known to increase the risk of HOA, while other variants might not have been identified yet.
