Abstract

Fifteen normal hands and fifteen rheumatoid digits have been assessed in terms of function and bone density. Closely correlated in the normal, these two parameters of hand assessment are shown to be related in the rheumatoid hand and can both be improved by appropriate surgery. As hand surgeons we must be able to assess hands before operating on them—“evaluation before renovation”.
