Abstract

Despite two forewords, a preface, and an introduction, the objective of this book is unclear. The author is a highly respected elder statesman of plastic surgery, and this summary of principles of technique is clearly a labor of love by a thoughtful scholar and gentleman. The book is comparable in several ways with Dr Ralph Millard's books on plastic surgery, which also contain a mixture of anecdotes, tradition, scientific data, pearls of wisdom, and personal opinions.The Art of Surgical Techniqueis a book to be enjoyed by all of us and one to be studied by medical students considering surgery, surgical residents, surgical assistants, scrub nurses, and technicians. Practicing surgeons, and specifically plastic surgeons, will profit by seeing much of what they do instinctively spelled out, as well as by learning a few new things.
