ISBN-10: 1842145967, ISBN-13: 978-1842145968. $199.95. ![Graphic][1] This book was presented for review to me as a cosmetic dermatologic surgeon with authorship of textbooks on chemical peeling and as a teacher of many of the procedures shared by plastic surgery. This new textbook is a consolidation of Dr. Obagi's opinions and a compilation of the basic existing knowledge, reviewing practically everything one might need to reverse photo damage and aging skin. Chapter 1 is a basic science skin presentation for the nonphysician or the relatively inexperienced physician, complete with references. Chapter 2 expands principles on the reversal of cosmetic benign skin changes, which the author claims is not performed well by the specialty of dermatology. In my opinion, that may have been the case 20 years ago. His principles of skin restoration are excessively discursive and are extensively presented. Chapter 3, written by the author's associate, is an encyclopedic consolidation of every topical agent, including growth factors and barely-effective cosmeceuticals, available to treat the most common skin diseases. This is geared towards the physician rather than the nonphysician. Chapter 4 on the author's skin classification system incorporates botulinum toxin, lasers, fillers, and his peels, and it may be inferred that the author believes that his system is superior to the existing system of judging whether these procedures are indicated. Chapter 5 on rejuvenating the skin presents accurate points but nothing new to a physician familiar with existing principles of cosmetic dermatologic and plastic surgery.
