Abstract

Self-compassion is the caregiver's well-spring and salve for burnout and fatigue. Authentic self-compassion exercises that are meaningful yet also right-sized, accessible, and practical are key for busy healthcare professionals. Brief, asynchronous, and online self-compassion lessons to teach informal applications and skills are recommended over lengthy workshops requiring time-consuming formal mindfulness and self-compassionate practices. Being able to transfer that learning into in-the-moment applications while at work as informal self-compassionate exercises may be more conducive but may not be fully integrated. Therefore, adding a creative element such as visual artmaking can help deepen the experience in an embodied way, especially for professionals who prefer hands-on, experiential learning , creative activity, and a tangible product.
