Abstract

Abstract : President George W. Bush summarized his National Security Strategy in a speech to West Point cadets in June 2002 when he stated, If we wait for threats to fully materialize, we will have waited too long. In the world we have entered, the only path to safety is the path of action. And this nation will act. The new, pre-emptive National Security Strategy, referred to by many as the Bush Doctrine, will have a significant impact on the military role in power projection. This strategy research project addresses the role of U.S. Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) in power projection, how this role supports the pre-emptive Bush Doctrine, and provides an operational concept for the employment of ARSOF which includes the potential impact of information operations, theater security cooperation plans, military transformation and Joint Presence Policy.
