The Arctic in 2022: results and prospects

Abstract

The article examines various aspects of the Arctic in 2022, analyzing the withdrawal from Arctic projects of several large European and Asian multinational companies, the termination of scientific cooperation and the fundamental changes in the activities of the Arctic Council (AC). The results of the development of the Russian Arctic are summarized (growth in cargo turnover, approval of the plan for the development of the NSR until 2035, development of the Arctic territories). Particular attention is paid to the threats in the Arctic, defense, and security issues.
